Unburden Yourself

To Us … Love, You is not primarily a literary endeavor. We’ve set our sights on publishing a book, but our driving motivation is to give voice to those struggling with trauma and its aftermath. We invite honest, personal stories from anyone who has something to say about what they’ve been through … illness, abuse, betrayal, indoctrination, discrimination, homelessness, abandonment, PTSD, the suicide of a loved one … and how you’ve grown or changed. We don’t much care about polish; we’re looking for raw emotion and evidence of thoughtful reflection. If you’re thinking about sharing your story with us, please review.

We encourage you to address the following in your story:

What happened?

  • Describe the incident/circumstances.

  • What were your options?

  • What actions did you take?

Who stood by you?

  • Who were the heroes that helped you survive and, hopefully, thrive?

  • What role did they play in helping you through?

  • What have you overcome?

  • How has your life changed as a result?

  • What gives you hope?

Please note: We are not interested in fiction nor anything that exploits or exposes other people. For that reason, we ask that you do not use any real names. Make up names for the characters in your story, or use generic descriptors in lieu of names, like “my brother” or “the pastor of my church.”

We attempt to respond to every submission within 1 month.

Our small but mighty editorial team will read your story to determine its fit for possible future publication. (If it is, you’ll hear from us!)

** At this time, we are not able to compensate writers for their work. Remember … reading your stories gives us our best ideas for resources and writing prompts to share on our blog.

We are learning together, and your insights contribute to the healing cycle.

We thank you.
